Hi,

Sorry I haven’t posted for a while or updated the OpLogo Changer.

The delay has been caused by ongoing personal problems and family issues. It means that I’ve had little spare time to do anything, and when I have had spare time I have been unable to concentrate on this project.

Work will resume as soon as possible. If v0.03 is not released before May, I will re-release 0.02 with an extended life so it does not expire at the end of April.

I am sorry for the inconvenience the delay is causing but unfortunately I can’t do anything about it right now.

Hi all,

For the past few days I have been trying to establish if it is possible to use transparency with colour logos. The answer is no.

However, of course, it would be possible to create a hybrid transparency effect within the program by automatically cutting out part of the background wallpaper and applying the oplogo on top of that. The problem though, is that it will look bad if the orientation is changed (from portrait to landscape or vice versa) or if the theme is changed. In these instances, the oplogo would need to be (manually) re-applied.

Is this acceptable, guys? Please leave a comment.

If not, an alternative would be to create a new applicator tool for oplogos that would be used instead of the internal one for the phone. This would allow proper true transparencies, but would require a program to be always running in the background. This type of program would also be much easier to get Symbian Signed, but might not appeal to everyone as it would need to be running all the time for the logo to be present.

What would you prefer? Don’t say both ;)

Hi,

Well, just a few hours after 0.01a, it’s time to release 0.02a! This is because there were a few bugs with the MNC recognition system, meaning certain operators wouldn’t be compatible (such as Vodafone Romania, T-Mobile Germany and TIM in Italy). This should now be fixed.

Additionally the application would quit while applying the operator logo or hiding the logo for some networks, due to a buffer overflow. Again, this is fixed.

There are also some optimisations to hopefully speed up the process of adding an oplogo, and the Help option has been temporarily replaced with Diagnostics to provide details when reporting a bug.

Your feedback for v0.01a has been invaluable — thanks to everyone! Please keep it coming for v0.02a and beyond :)

Again, this will only work for registered testers and will expire at the end of April.

UPDATED: If you were having problems with this version, please redownload it (ensure the filename is OpLogoChanger002a.sisx and not OpLogoChanger002.sisx as the former is the new version).

For everyone who joined the tester program — the time to test is now!

You can download the software here. Note that this software will only install and work correctly if you signed up to be a tester and installed it on the phone that you entered your IMEI for. Users who hacked platform security may be able to use the software too if they strip the certificate and replace it with their own. However, this is not something that I condone, support or can help with.

Remember, I expect that this software does have bugs, because it’s the very first release! Indeed, thanks to faquick he has discovered a couple of issues on his N80 (although it works fine on the N95) that the application may quit if you try to change or hide an operator logo without removing it and rebooting your phone first.

Also on the N95, instead of rebooting your phone, you can switch to UMTS or GSM mode and then back again to Dual Mode to force the oplogo to change. This may (or may not) be more convenient than rebooting.

Please use the Comments section of this post to let me know what you think about it — what you like, what you don’t like, what should be changed, and bugs that you find (preferably including as much detail as possible).

All supporters will receive the final version for free and those who really help will get a mention in the credits.

As always, this is development software not suitable for final release so please back up your phone before installing and using this program, and I would recommend that it is installed on the memory card (although it should work on phone memory too). I cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss of data as a result of using this program. I have tested it extensively and it works fine for me on my N95.

Note: This version will expire at the end of April. A new version should be released well before then. Once expired, you will not be able to change or hide the operator logo, but you will still be able to restore the operator text.

Hello,

Signups for the first testing phase will end at 7pm UK time (6pm GMT). If you would like to become a tester, please join the list before this time.

Please note that now no further signups will be accepted for testers with the N95 — please,  please, please, please, please only sign up if you have a different model (there are waaaaaaay too many N95 testers compared to testers of all the other models combined)!

Update:- Thanks to all the ~250 testers who have signed up! Signups are now suspended.
